August 2026 labor market report

The 60,000 global job postings tyomarkkinadata tracked this month, distilled for international talent in Finland.

The short version

  • AI mentions jumped from 1,166 to 8,594 in a single month, a 637% increase, making it the single largest skill signal in the dataset by a wide margin.
  • Account Executive postings surged 645% month-on-month, from 747 to 5,567, overtaking every profession except Software Engineer.
  • Automation reached 1,771 mentions, up 429% from 335, signaling that employers are actively hiring for the people who build efficiency, not just those who benefit from it.
  • The total posting volume grew roughly fourfold compared to July, driven almost entirely by remote and international enrichment sources rather than Nordic-specific listings.

What changed this month

Biggest risers - skills

AI led every category this month. Its mention count moved from 1,166 (July) to 8,594 (August), a 637% increase. B2B SaaS followed at +516%, reaching 7,447 mentions from 1,209. Automation grew 429%, Customer Support 342%, and Project Management 305%. These are not incremental moves. The scale of change reflects both genuine demand growth and a larger sample base; both effects are real.

Biggest risers - professions

Account Executive is the profession story of the month: 747 postings in July, 5,567 in August, +645%. Customer Success Manager rose 296%, from 342 to 1,354. Security Engineer grew 269%, Project Manager 266%. Software Engineer remained the highest-volume role at 13,807 postings, itself up 208% from 4,487.

Declining skills and professions

The dataset records no declining skills or professions this month. Given the sample-size expansion, absence from the declining list is less meaningful than usual; interpret it accordingly.

Skill Mentions MoM change
Project Management 2,031 +305%

The co-occurrence data reinforces what the individual counts show. The B2B SaaS bundle (B2B SaaS, Salesforce, Sales, Sales Strategy, Customer Engagement) had 4,728 co-occurrences. The AWS bundle (AWS, Python, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Docker) had 3,564. Employers are not buying individual skills; they are buying stacks.

Professions in demand

Profession Postings MoM change
Software Engineer 13,807 +208%
Account Executive 5,567 +645%
Product Manager 2,693 +213%
Machine Learning Engineer 2,057 +155%

Recruiter 1,232 +122%

Account Executive's surge is notable because it coincides with the B2B SaaS skill bundle's 4,728 co-occurrences. These are not generic sales roles. They cluster around software-native companies hiring pipeline builders who understand product-led growth and recurring revenue models.

Industry and seniority

Industry

Technology absorbed 56,115 of the tracked postings, or roughly 93% of the total. Healthcare was a distant second at 6,186, followed by Retail (4,493) and Finance (3,981). Government reached 3,133. This concentration is consistent with prior months but is amplified here by the remote-job sample (53,183 postings), which skews heavily toward tech and SaaS employers.

YC-backed companies add context. Of 6,116 total companies tracked, 1,487 are actively hiring. B2B is the dominant vertical (2,227 companies, 841 hiring), followed by Healthcare (534 companies, 164 hiring) and Fintech (475 companies, 163 hiring). The ratio of hiring to total companies is highest in Industrials (124 of 348, roughly 36%), a sector worth watching for less-saturated entry points.

Seniority

Mid-level roles dominate at 58,891 postings. Senior roles account for 24,396. Junior roles reached only 2,871 and intern postings 2,471. The mid-to-junior ratio is approximately 20:1. For international candidates in Finland who are earlier in their careers, this gap is a structural constraint, not a temporary one.

What this means for international talent in Finland

The volume jump this month is driven largely by the remote and international enrichment layer (53,183 remote postings versus 44,992 in July, plus 88,668 international enrichments versus 16,000 in July). The Nordic-specific sample held steady at roughly 2,000 postings. Finnish employers are not yet posting at the velocity the global numbers suggest. However, the global signal still matters: skills and role types that appear at scale in global postings tend to surface in Finnish hiring cycles roughly six months later, as multinationals with Finnish offices align on headcount priorities set at the group level.

The AI skill's move from 1,166 to 8,594 mentions is the clearest example. Finnish companies in manufacturing, logistics, and public services are actively piloting AI-adjacent projects. Roles will follow. Professionals who can demonstrate applied AI fluency now, paired with domain knowledge in Finnish-relevant industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, or public-sector services, are positioning ahead of that demand curve. The pairing of AI with Infrastructure (co-occurrence bundle of 3,429) and Cloud suggests that deployment-side roles, not just research or prompt engineering, are where the hiring pressure is building.

The Account Executive surge is a separate signal worth taking seriously. Finland has a strong B2B technology export sector, and international professionals with SaaS sales experience and business-level English or Finnish face relatively low local competition for these roles. The Salesforce skill's move to 2,641 mentions (+231%) confirms that CRM fluency is a near-mandatory qualifier in this cluster. If you are in a revenue-adjacent role and have not yet formalized Salesforce experience on your profile, the data argues for doing so before the global demand pattern arrives in Helsinki and Espoo hiring pipelines.

Methodology

tyomarkkinadata samples approximately 60,000 global job postings per month across Stripe, NVIDIA, Salesforce, and 200-plus other companies. Numbers in this report come from four listed sources for the period ending August 2026: a16z portfolio jobs (15,022 postings), Nordic jobs (1,996), remote jobs (53,183), and international job enrichments (88,668). Skill and profession mentions are extracted from posting text. The same role can appear under multiple skills, so category totals exceed total posting counts. Month-on-month percentage changes compare August 2026 figures to July 2026 figures from the same dataset. The fourfold increase in total enrichments this month means absolute counts are not directly comparable to July; percentage changes within each month's dataset are internally consistent.
